Tanzania’s natural attractions, especially the famous Northern Safari circuit, cannot fail to leave any adventurer struck with awe at the spectacular scenery, the parks teeming with wildlife and the rich cultures of the 158 ethnic groups to be found within its borders.

The tropical climate means that it is constantly warm throughout the year; humid in the coastal areas, fresh and bracing in the highlands and hot with cooling breezes in most other parts of the country. The bi-annual rains in April and November bring the vital green seasons to the bush and help to maintain the abundant diversity of wildlife for which Tanzania is so famous.

Over a quarter of the country, 937,000 square kilometeres to be precise, is set aside for game parks and reserves. Three of its wildlife sanctuaries – namely the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and the Selous Game Reserve – have been designated World Heritage Sites.  Tanzania offers some extraordinary spectacles; vast clear blue skies, seemingly endless plains, over 800 kilometers of coastline, Africa’s deepest and largest lakes and the history as well as the pristine white beaches of Zanzibar. It even boasts Africa’s highest mountain (Kilimanjaro) as well as the only active Soda Carbonatite volcano in the world (Ol Donyo Lengai).

Tanzania is served by three international airports located in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and close by Kilimanjaro between Arusha and Moshi. If your intention is to “Safari” on the Northern circuit then you should plan to fly into Kilimanjaro Airport which is well served by KLM, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines. Kenya Airways also flies into Kilimanjaro Airport from Nairobi as do a number of other regional carriers.
