Guests who stay in our private camps tend to be people who are by nature very “private” and who are therefore far less likely to post reviews of their stays in an Intimate Camp on social media.
If you are reading this, then there is a likelihood that you too are considering booking an Intimate Camp in conjunction with your Safari in Tanzania and you may be slightly concerned that you are unable to find reviews on TripAdvisor or elsewhere on the internet.
For this reason, we would like to share with you the many accolades which Intimate Camps has received over the years from ‘The Safari Awards.’
The Safari Awards (http://www.safariawards.com/) is an organisation which is run by tourism professionals and which honours Safari properties globally recognising camps, lodges, guides, spas and food providing services which far exceed industry norms on the African continent.
Over the years, Intimate Camps has received recognition from the judges on very many occasions for excellence in many different aspects of its operations.
Rather than simply attaching copies of the awards which have been bestowed upon us, we feel that it would be more useful to explain to you what they are.
Intimate Camps were winners in this category in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. We were awarded the runner-up prize in 2017. These awards attest to the overall quality of our luxury mobile camping operations.
Intimate Camps were ‘highly commended’ in this category in 2015 and were awarded the ‘runner-up’ or 2nd prize in 2019 in recognition of the giant strides we have taken to protect the environments in which we operate. For more information on this subject, please read the document entitled “Intimate Places and the Environment” on this website.
Short stay luxury mobile camps which are set-up for private use are notoriously expensive operations to run. The logistics are enormous and transportation and staffing costs very high. Despite this, the cost of enjoying an Intimate Camp is far from prohibitive and the company was highly commended in 2015 as well as awarded the ‘runner-up’ prize in 2019 in recognition of our efforts to provide our guests with very good value for their money.
A high percentage of our overall bookings come from the market segment known as ‘multi-generational travel’ where three generations (or more) of the same family go on Safari together. Intimate Camps is a very attractive option for such groups since we provide them with their own ‘home from home’ in the Tanzanian wilderness and plan their stay around what they actually enjoy. In 2019, Intimate Camps was awarded 2nd prize in this category.
Intimate Places has a long history of working with local communities in Northern Tanzania (please read the document entitled “Corporate Social Responsibility” on this website) and was recognised for these efforts by being awarded 3rd prize for 2019.
There are few honeymoon experiences anywhere on the globe which can rival having your very own private camp in the wilderness tended by your own personal butlers, chefs and tent attendant. Honeymooners also appreciate the fact that they are also able to set their own pace for the duration of their stay in camp. In 2015, Intimate Camps was awarded 3rd prize in this category and was ‘highly commended in 2019.
Guests staying in an Intimate Camp are able to select from an extensive range of menus – or even to create their own menus – which will be prepared and served to them during the course of their stay by our award-winning chefs and butlers. In this way, guests are guaranteed to be served only food which they like. Intimate Camps was awarded 3rd prize in this category in 2015 and received a commendation in 2019.
Guests who choose to ‘fly-in’ to camp and to use our own team of guides can expect the highest possible standards of guiding. Among our team are guides such as Richard Knocker, Clint Schipper and Paul – Joynson-Hicks who, for an additional fee, can make your Safari an experience never to be forgotten. Intimate Places was awarded 2nd prize for its guiding team in 2018.
Walking is an activity which is strictly controlled in the national parks of Tanzania. Our guiding team can however take you for walks in multiple locations on the Northern Safari circuit and their work was recognised with a commendation in 2018.
It is always worth remembering that Camp Zebra is an Intimate Camp which is managed and operated by the same dedicated team of professionals. Many of these awards can therefore be said to apply equally to Camp Zebra as they do to Intimate Camps.
